Little more than 170 kilometres southeast of Lisbon, near the historical city of Reguengos de Monsaraz, we find a landscape typical of the Baixo Alentejo region. It is here, amongst rolling plains, shallow valleys, occasional streams, corn fields, vineyards and olive groves, we find Herdade do Esporão

Located in the heart of the Alentejo and part of the Wine Route, the doors at Herdade do Esporão are open to visitors, every day.

Montado Ecosystem

With a cork oak forest, the estate has extraordinary conditions for agriculture. With approximately 700 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and the other crops we grow using organic methods and integrated production.

World’s Most Admired Wine Brands

Esporão was ranking in 13th position in "The World's Most Admired Wine Brands" 2020. These awards have been attributed since 2011 and distinguish the most prominent and prestigious wine brands on the planet.

The 450 hectares of vineyard planted in Herdade do Esporão’s key agricultural areas adhere to the principles of integrated production, except those zones already certified (77 hectares) or those being converted (123 hectares) to organic production methods.

The grape harvesting is over and sowing has begun
It is time to define strategies for the new farming year. This is fundamental to examine
the grapes each plot produced for the year in terms of both quality and quantity

This is the winegrowing region with the widest variety of soils: granite, crystalline limestone-derived, Mediterranean brown and red and schist. The area is distinguished by gentle plains and shallow valleys carved out by occasional streams, a Mediterranean climate with certain areas boasting a continental microclimate and the constant presence of corn fields, vineyards and olive groves.

Pruning is one of the most important tasks during the production cycle of wines and olive oils. Not only does it contribute to healthier fruit and enhance quality, but also helps avoid using chemicals to control certain bacteria, fungi and diseases

The Medieval history of the region began with the Regain of Monsaraz and Reguengos in 1232. Since then, wine and olive oil have become an indelible aspect of the region

At the heart of Herdade do Esporão stand three historical monuments: the Esporão Tower, the Esporão Arch and the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Chapel

The Esporão Tower, a symbol of standing in society and military power, is one of the most important towers illustrating the transition from Medieval times to the Modern Age in Portugal

The Perdigões Archaeological Complex, located 5km from Herdade do Esporão, is an important prehistoric site dating back approximately 5500 years

In 1997 started to produce quality Olive Oil

It is possible to visit the place where the olive oils are born and follow the production processes.

Throughout the year they have guided tours, with a tasting of three olive oils.
