Mouchão Wine Tasting

If you are a wine lover and keen to learn more about Portuguese wines then this wine tasting is for you.

Join us at 14h30 or 17h30 to taste many flavours from Mouchão. At 14h30 you will have the opportunity to have an exclusive masterclass with Mouchão winemaker, Hamiton Reis.

It is said that they were the first to introduce the Alicante Bouschet grape in Portugal at the end of the 1880’s. And until today the work rhythms remain largely unaltered, with grapes being hand-picked, traditional foot treading in marble lining Lagares and the rest musts pressed by old wooden presses completed manually.

Nowadays, about half of the red grape produced is Alicante Bouschet that benefits from the hot and dry climate producing wines with high tannins, deeply pigmented and relatively high alcohol but well balanced in acidity. They bottled their first wine in 1949. Before, all wines were sold in bulk – in skins, casks or wicker flagons. After more than 100 years to keep the tradition it is still possible to go visit Mouchao and bring with you a 2L demijohn which you can refill on your next visit.

The wine is aged in 5.000 litres tonéis make of oak and chestnut that are between 50 to 100 years old.
