Quinta da Escusa

Quinta da Escusa extends over a long valley that connects the rural villages of Quintas and Vale Barco, where the ancestors of the current owners were born.

Secular tradition

For centuries, Quinta da Escusa's main crop has been the vineyard, more recently replenished and planted in its original terroirs.

A Family Winery

The bridge witnessed the Roman presence in the region and inspired the denomination Romana Vini, a Family Winery

Sustainable Agriculture

Vineyeards planted in the best terroirs, which have been occupied by vine growing for hundreds of years now. Intervention in good time, the rigor, the responsibility and their affection for the practice of wine producing, are the greatest guarantee of quality of these wines.

Romana Vini

The Roman Bridge over the Arnóia little river, used to be the passage from the Roman road that connected Collippo (near Leiria) to Eburobrittium (Óbidos), which would finally led to Olisipo (Lisbon). The bridge inspired the denomination Romana Vini, a Family Winery

Winery Symbol

The 4-leaf clover is the winery symbol and is their aggregating element of brands. It is a rare herb, of good omen, whose symbology goes back to Celtic traditions. It is this balance, this perfect and harmonious cycle of nature that they seek to respect, integrate and reflect in each of their wines

A Niche Player - Truth and Quality

Terroirs true expression

Exclusively work with own grapes, these wines reflect the true expression of their terroirs. The whole process is aimed at creating true and serious wines, always proving their own identity.

Vineyards certification

Vineyards cultivated with low soil mobilization, no use of herbicides. Soil enrichment made with natural manure. Environmentally sustainable practices are adopted and they are certified by the Integrated Production Standards.

Nowdays, at Quinta do Porto Nogueira and Quinta da Escusa lands, our family led the planting of vineyards, favoring the terroirs formerly occupied by old vineyards, always aiming to produce exceptional grapes and make unique wines, under the brands Quinta Nogueira, Quinta da Escusa, Página and Berbereta.»

Unique

Each portion of the 10 hectares vineyards in Quinta da Escusa – which are DOC Santarém classified - is treated and valued as unique and different, proving that their wines are produced with the pleasure and well-being of those who enjoy them

Terroir

Quinta de Escusa vineyards soil are sandy but fertile, located between Serra de Aire e Candeeiros (“Aire and Candeeiros Mountain”) and Serra de Montejunto (“Montejunto Mountain”), south of Tagus River, on the Ribatejo heath, marked by a hot summer climate, where grapes ripen faster.

Location

These lands produce excellent red grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Miúda, Sousão, Castelão and Syrah. Additionally, white grapes are produced as well in this property: the Portuguese Arinto and Moscatel Alexandria

Quality not quantity

When harvesting and afterwards in the cellar, the producer adopted a rigorous Grape Selection Process that is used to produce all of their wines. It is an organized process of successive sorting that assures us the selection of the best grapes

Rigorous Grape Selection

Only the best grapes are chosen, sacrificing yields for quality: tailored pruning to the profile of their wines, pre-harvested grapes, curls selection while harvesting and at cellar entry, and final selection of berries on the table

Main commitment is to produce excellent wines. Quality is paramount and each stage of the winemaking process incorporates this philosophy

The wines become as good and as special as the quality of its grapes. The uniqueness of Casa Romana Vini wines comes largely from its vineyards

In oenology, they are mainly caregivers of the fruit, focused on understanding and realizing the full potential of the vines and the fruit that comes into the cellar

Exclusively with grapes harvested at Quinta da Escusa, in the Tagus Region, Casa Romana Vini produces white and red wines with the single brand Quinta da Escusa.

Rigorous Grape Selection

Only the best grapes

Pre-harvested grapes, bunches selection while harvesting and in the cellar, and final selection of berries on the table. In the fruit we use there are no greens, rotten, insects nor rubbish. Only the best selected fruit is used in our wine making process

Lagar

The red grapes are gently trampled and macerated in mills, following the fermentation in small vats

Vinification

Always use grapes grown in their own vineyards when producing their wines. The white grapes, when pressed, ferment in small vats. Both our Mono-varietal and Reserva blends white wines are aged in French or American oak barrels under fine lees, with batonnage

Barrel Cellar

Part of Harvest red wines, and both Mono-varietal and Reserva blends are aged in French or American oak barrels from the well-known cooperages french tonneleire Séguin Moreau and portuguese tonnelerie JM Gonçalves
