History

Since 1910, Arrochela e Camizão family produces Vinho
Verde wines in the subregion of Amarante and Sousa.

The great differentiation and challenge here was to create a
vinho verde “No Equal” (meaning “Sem Igual”) that is not a
traditional style made with the local grapes but yet a white
wine, non fizzy, bodied, extremelly dry, that needs time in
the bottle. With high level of acidity and long and
persistent finish.

The Name & The Label Design

Sem Igual means “No Equal” or “Different from all Others” - It was chosen to define a vinho verde that is not a traditional style made with the local grapes of Arinto and Azal.

Terroir & Type of soil

About 10 hectares of vineyards in a granite and gravel soil.
Vines with ages between 4 to 70 years trained in
ascending unilateral cord as well as pergola training system, in the old vines.
200 to 300 meters of altitude and the majority of the vineyards are facing south in a half slope configuration with the exception
of the pergola-trained vines.

Grape type & Characteristics

Arinto is a large bunch of grapes, conical and very compact. Good acidity, chaste with some citrus, sometimes with some mineral and personality, evolves well with aging. Azal is a medium to large bunch, cylinder-conical, very compact yet uniform. Greenish, sometimes lightly pinkish, thick film, hard pulp, slightly succulent and with a simple flavor. When mature, it produces wines with a delicate and characteristic aroma, although of little intensity, slightly acidic and fruity (lemon and green apple)

Vinification

if necessary, the grapes are picked in a segmented/partial times to ensure the correct maturation of the grapes and have the correct blend. The majority of the wines ferments in 100% stainless steel tank for about 8 days at 17°C temperature. 10 days after fermentation it will age in stainless steel tank for 6 months (excepting Sem Igual Ramadas - old vines).

Sem Igual uses a cork stopper which is designated as “Flor”- extracted directly from cork boards is a 100% natural product.
Ideal seal and assuming a decisive role in the correct evolution of the wine over several years in the bottle
